People are familiar with
sculpture in many ways,
from museums to public
spaces, but few have any
idea of what is involved in
the production process. |

"..the pleasure is
in seeing the artists
positively happy
about the process" |
 |
Henry Abercrombie
Foundry owner |
|
 |
This commissioned film demonstrates
the foundry’s involvement in
producing a complete finished sculpture from the artist’s original
to a bronze piece, involving the lost wax process. |
 |
| |
The film features the foundry’s
owner Henry Abercrombie, the foundry manager, and their creative technicians,
most of whom are themselves arts graduates contributing sensitive interpretation
of the sculptors’ works. |
 |
 |
| |
It begins in Bill Woodrow’s
studio, then on to
the foundry to follow the reproduction process
through mould preparation, mould making then
the various wax processes, through firing, the
pouring of the bronze, ‘banging out’ and finally,
patination and finishing – and with this
particular piece, gilding by hand. |
